Midland College offers an Associate of Science in Engineering and a curriculum pathway in the Associate of Science in General Studies program.  Additionally, Midland College offers a 36 semester credit hour Certificate in the Field of Study for Engineering.  Each option provides a pathway for students who intend to transfer to a four-year institution and major in Engineering.

The Associate of Science and certificate are Field of Study credentials.  The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has created Field of Study credentials that are designed to transfer as a block of credit to any Texas public college or university. Field of Study credentials are comprised of courses a student should complete at the freshman and sophomore level that will lead to a specific major at a receiving institutions. Students’ transcripts will include a notation that states a specific Field of Study has been completed.

A student who transfers without completing the Field of Study Curriculum shall receive academic credit toward the major at the receiving institution for each of the courses that the student has successfully completed in the Field of Study Curriculum.  Credit shall be granted on a course-for-course basis at the credit-hour level of the receiving institution.  Students taking courses in the Field of Study will not necessarily complete the College’s Core Curriculum  but will complete courses needed to prepare them for entry into the junior year of most Engineering programs.

The curriculum pathway in the Associate of Science in General Studies degree includes the complete 42 credit hour core curriculum and selected Engineering courses.

Students should consult with their MC advisor or the most recent catalog of the university that they plan to attend to determine current transfer requirements.  It is recommended that students visit with both their STEM Advisor and with their Engineering instructor to determine which pathway is best for them.
