Patient Care Technician

The dual credit Patient Care Technician courses offer training, skills, and knowledge needed to provide basic care to patients of an acute care facility. Students will also receive training and clinical experience as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician, and Phlebotomy Technician. Students will assist with activities of daily living including personal care; measure vital signs; assist with positioning and transfers; communicate effectively with patients and their families; and interact effectively as a member of the health care team. Topics include patient’s rights; infection control measures; safety; body mechanics; observation, reporting, and documenting; critical thinking; and legal/ethical issues. The program offers state-of-the-art equipment and connections to our local medical community through guest speakers, field trips, and clinical placements. Emphasis is on acute care of the adult, geriatric, and pediatric populations, and critical care specialties.  Preparation to gain employment as a Patient Care Technician.

Suggested prior coursework includes Health Science Foundations (MISD), or health science dual credit courses (FSISD).
