Midland College offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Respiratory Care. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Therapist Multiple Choice (TMC) exam. After successfully completing the TMC exam, graduates may take the Clinical Simulation exam (CSE). Upon successful completion of both exams, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is awarded. Graduates may apply for state licensure after passing the TMC exam at either the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) level.
The Midland College Respiratory Care Program (CoARC program #200303) awards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Care on the Midland College campus in Midland, Texas and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (https://coarc.com).

Program Admission
Admission to the Respiratory Care Program is competitive due to accreditation standards and the availability of clinical placement sites. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.
Steps to Apply
To be considered for admission, applicants must complete the following:

College Admission

Complete an Advising Session with the Program Chair or Clinical Director.

Complete all Prerequisite Courses: Earn a minimum grade of “C” in the following:

Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.25

Complete a Clinical Observation of a Respiratory Therapist:

Ensure Required Immunizations, in Accordance, with Texas Law, are Up to Date:

Complete Clinical Clearance Requirements, including:

Tuberculosis (TB) Testing
-
Influenza Vaccination
-
10-panel Urine Drug Screening
-
Background Clearance
-
Minimum age of 18 by Fall admission

Complete CPR Training through the American Heart Association as a Professional Rescuer.

International Students: For the purposes of admission to the Program, an international student is defined as a student who did not graduate from a high school in the United States. All international students must demonstrate English language proficiency by taking and passing either:

Ranking and Admissions
Applicants who meet all minimum eligibility requirements are evaluated using a standardized point system outlined on the program’s webpage.
Applicants are initially ranked based on total admission points earned in designated coursework, which includes prerequisite courses and additional courses from the Care degree plan. Admissions points are awarded only for grades of C or higher as follows:
- BIOL 2401, Anatomy and Physiology I - 4 points for A; 3 points for B; 2 points for C
- BIOL 2402, Anatomy and Physiology II - 4 points for A; 3 points for B; 2 points for C
- Social/Behavioral Sciences Elective - 4 points for A; 3 points for B; 2 points for C
- Humanities/Fine Arts Elective - 4 points for A; 3 points for B; 2 points for C
- ENGL 1301, Composition I - 4 points for A; 3 points for B; 2 points for C
- Previous Degree - 8 points for Masters; 6 points for Bachelors; 4 points for Associates
When applicants have equivalent total admission points, the cumulative GPA is used as a secondary ranking factor.
Program Requirements
Accepted students must:
- Take all Respiratory Care courses in sequential order.
- Pass all required courses with a minimum grade of “C”.
- Maintain American Heart Association Basic Life Support licensure throughout the duration of the program.
- Maintain health insurance coverage throughout the duration of the program.
Completion Requirements
To receive an A.A.S. degree in Respiratory Care, a student must:
- Complete Midland College General Requirements for Degrees and Certificates
- Complete all major courses with a “C” or better
- Have an overall GPA of 2.0 or better
- Pass a written and/or clinical simulation final exam
