The Health Services Management (HSM) program consists of a comprehensive curriculum based on workforce competencies for the management of health services in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, public health organizations, and other health-related organizations. All junior-and senior-level courses (MHSM) are offered fully online.
Because HSM continues to expand, courses were developed to address interdisciplinary needs for patient care reporting and facility management, with specialization in areas of health care operations, information systems, healthcare reporting, and financial decision-making. The program also includes current healthcare policy, federal and accreditation regulations, financial and revenue management, personnel management, and information governance.
Program Admission Requirements
In order to be admitted, students must
- Meet all College admission requirements.
- Complete the HSM Program Application.
- Review and sign the HSM Student Handbook and Allied Health Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Have an approved Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree or equivalent. Approved AAS degrees include those in the fields of health sciences, allied health, nursing, information technology or business, or others. Students who have completed an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree may seek entrance to the program if they have completed 41 credit hours of approved technical specialty coursework. Students nearing completion of an Associate in Applied Science degree
Students who are nearing the completion of an approved AAS may apply tor consideration of admittance into the BAS program.
Completion of Requirements
To receive a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Health Services Management, a student must:
- Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours through the following:
- 45 credit hours of approved lower-level technical specialty coursework (A minimum of 41 credit hours must be from approved technical specialty coursework. The remaining 4 credit hours can be from approved technical specialty coursework OR from an approved elective);
- 42 credit hours of State-prescribed Core Curriculum Requirements coursework;
- 33 credit hours of upper-level coursework.
- Complete at minimum of 24 upper-level credit hours required for the degree through instruction at Midland College.
- Have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 (out of a 4.0) scale for coursework applicable to the degree; and
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in each upper-level (numbered 3xxx and 4xxx) course.
