The Medical Assistant Program offers knowledge and skills needed to provide service in a medical office, outpatient clinic, or hospital setting. Students will assist with patient examination and procedures; measure vital signs; collect specimens and laboratory tests; schedule appointments and manage patient records; maintain inventory and supplies; communicate effectively with patients and their families; and interact effectively as a member of the health care team. Topics include patient’s rights; infection control measures; safety; reporting, and documenting; critical thinking; and legal/ethical issues. The program offers state-of-the-art equipment and connections to our local medical community through guest speakers, field trips, and clinical placements. Completion of program provides preparation for industry certification through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
