Patient Care Technician

The dual credit Patient Care Technician courses offer training, skills, and knowledge needed to provide basic patient care. Students will receive classroom, skills lab, and clinical experience to promote competency as a Nurse Aide, Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician, and Phlebotomy Technician. Students will assist with activities of daily living including personal care; measure vital signs; assist with positioning and transfers; communicate effectively with patients and their families; and interact effectively as a member of the health care team. Topics include patient’s rights; infection control measures; safety; body mechanics; observation, reporting, and documenting; critical thinking; and legal/ethical issues. The program offers state-of-the-art equipment and connections to our local medical community through guest speakers, field trips, and clinical placements. Emphasis on preparation for industry-based certification exams and to gain employment as a Patient Care Technician.

Suggested prior coursework includes Health Science Foundations (MISD), or health science dual credit courses (FSISD).
