General Education Requirements


Degree programs at Midland College are designed to promote the success of graduates, whether in their careers or in their next educational programs. In support of this goal, programs include general education coursework.  General education courses provide students with a broad base of knowledge and exposure to the perspectives and methodologies of various disciplines. Further, each general education course fosters the development of effective communication and critical thinking, competencies that are essential in the workplace and serve as the foundation for continued learning.  

Associate Degree Requirements

Midland College requires that graduates of each of its degree programs complete a minimum of 15 credit hours (5 courses) of general education coursework, including a minimum of one course each in Humanities/Fine Arts, Social/Behavioral Sciences and Mathematics/Natural Science.  Associate in Applied Science degrees and the Associate in Science in Engineering Study degree meet this requirement by including courses in the required categories from the list below.  Other Associate of Science degrees, the Associate of Arts in General Studies degree and the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree meet these requirements by including the State required Core Curriculum which requires 42 credit hours of general education.    

Bachelor’s Degree Requirements

Each Bachelor’s degree contains the State required Core Curriculum.
