Midland College prohibits discrimination, including harassment, against any student on the basis of sex, gender, race, color, national origin, religion, or disability.
Application requirements vary depending on a student’s educational goals and academic history. To ensure timely enrollment and registration, select the student category carefully. Midland College reserves the right to update the student category from application to registration based on information and student goals submitted on the application or in discussion with a student services employee.

High School Students
Midland College welcomes high school students that complete admissions procedures and meet all registration requirements. Current high school students may take classes as college credit only or as dual credit under authority of TAC 4.85. Students taking dual credit courses receive college and high school credit. Dual credit programs and course offerings are available for students in 9th - 12th grade.
Midland College, in partnership with Midland Independent School District, also offers an early college high school. The high school starts with the 9th grade and is housed on the Midland College main campus. Students begin taking dual credit courses in their freshman year. Students must be eligible for dual credit and are selected through a process determined by the Midland Independent School District.
High school students between the ages of 16 to 18 and not participating in a dual credit program may earn college credit that is not counted as high school credit.
High school students are not eligible for college developmental courses, unless they have completed the required high school requirement for math, reading, and/or writing for graduation.
Admissions and placement requirements can be found here.
International Students
International students are eligible for admission. Admission is contingent upon evaluation of the completed application packet (including a processing fee) and Midland College’s ability to serve the individual’s needs.
Compliance with all requirements and procedures established for visa category by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service is required. International Students with an F-1 visa must enroll in and maintain 12 credit hours of face to face courses during fall and spring terms. Failure to maintain these requirements will result in the termination of the student’s I-20.
Admissions and placement requirements can be found here.
Non-High School/GED Graduates
Individuals who are 18 years of age or older and do not meet other student category requirements may be admitted. Applicants without a completed GED or high school diploma are not eligible to receive Title IV federal financial assistance or scholarships from Midland College. All applicants must meet registration requirements. For additional assistance, contact welcome@midland.edu
Casual (non-degree seeking) Students
Students not intending to seek a degree or a certificate or planning to transfer to another college or university are eligible to attend Midland College. Students admitted as casual may not take academically restricted courses or more than two courses during each term. Official education records will be required if a student later elects to seek a degree, certificate, or award of credit. Casual (non-degree seeking) applicants are not eligible to receive Title IV federal financial assistance.
Admissions and eligibility requirements can be found here.
Exceptions
Request for exceptions to the above admissions regulations must be made in writing to the Vice President of Student Services. Decisions on exceptions will be made in consultation with the Vice President of Instructional Services upon review of student goals, academic preparedness, and situational circumstances.
Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Requirements
Prior to registration, Texas public institutions of higher education are required to assess all non-exempt, non-waived, first-time degree seeking college students under the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).
Find information on the TSI requirement, exemptions and waivers, and the TSI Assessment here.
Bacterial Meningitis
Texas State Law SB 1107 mandates that all entering students under the age of 22 and not otherwise exempt provide a certificate signed by a health care provider or an official immunization record verifying vaccination against bacterial meningitis, or receipt of a booster during the five years prior to registration and at least 10 days before the first day of the semester. Bacterial meningitis vaccinations and boosters must be administered by a health practitioner authorized by law to administer an immunization. Entering students include those entering college for the first time, transfer students from other colleges, and returning or continuing students who have had a break in enrollment of at least one fall or spring semester.
Additional information including exemptions can be found here.
Students not meeting an exemption who fail to submit certified proof of vaccination or a valid booster within the required time-frame will be unable to attend classes and will be dropped.
Sexual Misconduct Policy Orientation
State law requires that first time students or students who have not attended Midland College in two years complete the online sexual misconduct policy orientation.
Additional information, including a link to the orientation can be found here.
The Midland College Chief of Police will review all Institution of Higher Education Sex Offender Notifications that are submitted within the required seven days. If it is determined that participation is permissible under applicable law and poses no threat to the college community, the applicant will be allowed to register for classes. If an applicant is denied participation, the individual may appeal the decision in accordance with the College’s grievance policy.
Admission to Midland College does not guarantee entrance to specific programs and courses. Selective admissions requirements vary by program. Students are encouraged to consult with their assigned pathways advisor for more information on these programs.
Background Checks
Certain courses of study require that a background check, including criminal record history, be conducted on the applicant. If a background check is required, the applicant will be required to sign a consent form. If the applicant refuses to sign the consent form, or, if the results of the background check indicate the applicant is not eligible for admission, admission into the courses and/or program will not be offered to the applicant.
Other Immunization Requirements
Midland College students enrolling in certain health science programs and/or living in on-campus housing may be required to show proof of other immunizations against communicable diseases. Students should contact the program and housing web pages for additional information.
Students not meeting an exemption, waiver, or the passing standard of one or more sections of the TSIA are strongly encouraged to immediately take courses to become college ready. A student that is college ready in a subject area(s) (i.e., reading, writing, math), cannot be barred from taking an entry-level college-credit course that has been designated as TSI liable in that subject area(s). The student also cannot be barred from any other entry-level college coursework that has no TSI-liability. However, the student’s academic plan should clearly outline how the student will address the remaining TSI area(s), and may include one or more of the following: 1) retesting on the TSI (by a specific date), 2) enrolling in a corequisite model (if student qualifies), and 3) enrolling in appropriate DE course/intervention.

Midland College strongly recommends all students be advised by their assigned pathways advisors. Some students may be required to see their pathways advisors before class registration. Web registration access maybe blocked until cleared by an advisor.
Current high school students are encouraged to consult with their high school counselors (if taking college courses as dual credit) and the MC dual credit coordinator regarding course selection based on long term career and college goals.
Transient students should consult with their home university or college advisors regarding course selection. Receiving institutions have final say on transfer credit and applicability. For pre-requisite issues, students are encouraged to consult the transient advisor by completing the pre-requisite help form.
Students may register for classes by:
- Making an appointment with their assigned pathways advisors;
- Meeting with an advisor at the WRTTC;
- Completing the transient pre-requisite help request form;
- Contacting the Dual Credit Service Center at the ATC:
- Using My MC Portal.
Please refer to the academic calendar and each course syllabus for registration, refund, census, drop, and withdrawal deadlines.
Face to Face
Face to face or traditional classes have the instructor and students meeting in the classroom or another in-person setting.
Interactive video
Live (two-way, video/audio) instruction occurs with the students and instructor in different locations. While in separate locations, the schedule is traditional with set dates/times.
Distance Learning
Distance learning is a course delivery format in which the majority of the instruction occurs when students and instructors are not in the same place. There are a variety of distance learning formats. Computer access and reliable internet service are required. Secure login and password, proctored examinations (sometimes at an additional cost to the student), and other technologies are used to ensure it is the student who is participating, completing the work, and receiving credit. Find more information here.
- Online-Instruction occurs over the Internet. Proctoring (sometimes at an additional cost) is required in most courses.
- Hybrid-Instruction occurs in both the classroom and online environments.
- Virtual College of Texas-Midland College is a member of the Virtual College of Texas (VCT). With approval of the division dean, a Midland College student may enroll in an Internet course that is not offered at Midland College. Students may view the schedule at Virtual College of Texas. VCT enrollments must be made through the Midland College VCT Coordinator.
All entering first time in college students who have fewer than 12 post high school graduation college credit hours and who have met two or more sections of TSI, are strongly encouraged to take EDUC 1100. The course is designed to help students adjust to college and become effective learners.
Midland College requires that students who are deficient in two or more areas of the TSI assessment be enrolled into PREP 0370 during their first semester attending Midland College.
Developmental Education courses are designed to strengthen students’ basic skills in reading, writing, and math in order to achieve academic success in college level coursework.
