Organizational Management (Bachelor of Applied Technology)

Midland College offers a Bachelor of Applied Technology degree in Organizational Management (BAT-OM) designed to broaden career opportunities for students and better their chances for promotion to supervisory positions in the workplace.  The program provides a career ladder for students who have completed an approved Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program. AAS degrees accepted include Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling, Automotive Technology, Business Management (Business Administration or Business Management), Child Care and Development, Computer Graphics Technology, Law Enforcement, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diesel Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science Technology, Health Information Technology, Nursing (although not advised), Paralegal, Radiography, Respiratory Care. Other AAS degrees may be approved upon review.

The Organizational Management program objectives include developing managers and leaders who can identify opportunities, demonstrate the ability to embrace change, take the initiative to apply new technologies and have the courage to empower others in an organization to achieve greater positive results. The program also prepares students for positions as project managers, entrepreneurs, customer service managers and other roles requiring an understanding of management operations in complex and challenging global economies.

The BAT-OM degree represents successful completion of a minimum of 120 semester credit hours (s.c.h.), consisting of 30 hours of technical specialty credit awarded for completion of an approved AAS degree or equivalent. 42 hours of Core Curriculum and 48 hours of upper division courses, including 39 hours of required courses covering common aspects of applied management and 9 hours of specialty electives.

Requirements for admission to the Organizational Management Program include:

  1. general admission to Midland College;
  2. an application for admission application into the Bachelor of Applied Technology/Organizational Management program;
  3. compliance with Texas Success Initiative requirements (TSI); 
  4. an approved (AAS) degree from a Texas college or equivalent; and
  5. a GPA of 2.5 or better

Students who have been admitted to the program and are within 15 credit hours of completing their AAS degree may, with the approval of the Dean of Department Chair, enroll in no more than two (2) upper-division courses ONLY upon successfully completing the following enrollment requirements:

  1. ENGL 1301  and ENGL 2311  
  2. SPCH 1321  
  3. MATH 1324   or MATH 1325   

Students who have completed an AA or AS degree may seek entrance into the BAT/OM program after having successfully completed no less than 30 hours of an approved AAS degree’s technical courses AND after having received their AAS in the field covered by those technical courses. Students may not enroll in more than six (6) credit hours of upper-division courses before completing an AAS degree or equivalent. Once admitted into the program, successful completion of upper-division courses requires a grade of “C” or better.

TMGT 4320 , TMGT 4385  and TMGT 4396  must be taken as senior classes.
