Midland College offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Respiratory Care. The graduate will be eligible to sit for the Therapist Multiple Choice exam (TMC). After successfully completing the exam, graduates will sit for the Clinical Simulation exam (CSE). The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is awarded after successfully completing both exams. Graduates may apply for state licensure after passing the Therapist Multiple Choice exam at either the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) level.
New classes begin each fall and Respiratory Care (RSPT) courses must be taken sequentially for progression through the program. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete as many non-respiratory courses as possible prior to entering the program. Clinical rotations will be scheduled with Midland and Odessa health care facilities. Specialty rotations are also held in Lubbock. The student must achieve a minimum grade of “C” or better in all Respiratory courses and Biology courses, have a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.25 and complete a written and/or clinical simulation final exit exam to be eligible for graduation.
The Midland College Respiratory Care Program (CoARC program #200303) awards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Care on the Midland College campus in Midland, Texas and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (https://coarc.com).

The Midland College Respiratory Care Program has a limited enrollment based on the following specific admission criteria:
- Apply to Midland College.
- Complete the online Health Sciences Division Application for Admission.
- Schedule and complete an advising session with the Program Chair
- Submit official transcripts showing high school graduation (or proof of GED) and previous college courses to the Midland College Registrar’s Office.
- Obtain a minimum score of 79 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This requirement is for students born and educated through high school outside the United States. The TOEFL exam score is valid for two years.
- Complete requirements for the college’s Texas Success Initiative (TSI) unless an exemption has been granted.
- Complete (BIOL 2401), Anatomy and Physiology I, and (BIOL 2402), Anatomy and Physiology II, with a grade of “C” or better in each course.
- Complete the following immunizations prior to starting the program: three doses of the hepatitis B vaccine, two doses of mumps-measles-rubella (MMR) vaccine, current tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, varicella (chicken pox) disease verification or vaccine. Clinical agencies require students to have the current influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening each year.
- Complete consent allowing program personnel to conduct a background check.
- Obtain clearance on a urine drug screen scheduled by the department.
- CPR training through the American Heart Association as a Professional Rescuer must be current prior to the beginning of the program and must be maintained throughout the respiratory care program.
Students must comply with all school and Respiratory Program policies. Students are responsible for fees associated with clinical requirements.

To receive an A.A.S. degree in Respiratory Care, a student must:
